When you confide that sad reality to a friend, what\u2019s the first culprit you discuss? Overwork? Young children? Relationship problems, or even the worst-case scenario \u2014 an affair?    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm5h4doc5000h3b6m11zrhpmj@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            You may want to start by looking at your sleep habits as a couple, said Dr. Phyllis Zee, chief of sleep medicine at Northwestern University\u2019s Feinberg School of Medicine and director of its Center for Circadian and Sleep Medicine in Chicago.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm5h4doc5000i3b6mz7y8b1ah@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            \u201cDon\u2019t just toss it up to \u2018My partner just isn\u2019t interested,\u2019 or \u2018I\u2019m too tired to care about sexual desire,\u2019 or \u2018Oh, I\u2019m just getting old, that\u2019s just the way it is,\u2019\u201d Zee said. \u201cLook at yourself, look at your sleep habits and consider those of your partner as well.\u201d    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm5h4doc5000j3b6maaiqw2au@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Poor quality sleep is directly linked to inadequate levels of sex hormones, such as testosterone \u2014 and if you think that just applies to men, think again.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm5h4doc5000k3b6m9pydfomd@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            \u201cThe sex drive in both men and women is testosterone-related \u2014 testosterone increases libido,\u201d Zee said. \u201cTestosterone begins to rise about 3 or 4 o\u2019clock and peaks in the morning. It\u2019s a problem that worsens with age as sleep becomes more precious. In fact, women older than 70 who slept fewer than five hours a night were 30% less likely to be sexually active than women sleeping seven to eight hours, that study found.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm5h4doc5000m3b6msygk4s46@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            A 2021 analysis of studies found men who were sleep-deprived had lower testosterone levels, while another study  found men with disturbed sleep had both lower testosterone levels and higher amounts of cortisol, the stress hormone.<s><\/s>    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm5h4doc5000n3b6mo1v9hqms@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            When sleep becomes a priority, however, sex lives can improve. I think you have to show up prepared to simmer, then percolate and let desire emerge, as opposed to it just happening.\u201d    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm5h4doc5000r3b6mdp106vqr@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Want more from your sex life? Keep the bedroom cool and dark without blue light distractions such as televisions and smartphones. Avoid eating or drinking about three hours before retiring \u2014 especially alcohol, which will wake you in the middle of the night once it metabolizes. Obstructive sleep apnea \u2014 a potentially dangerous condition in which people stop breathing for 10 seconds or more at a time multiple times an hour \u2014 has been linked to erectile dysfunction in men and sexual disorders in women.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm5h4doc5000z3b6m6z7ktjva@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            While snoring is a common symptom of sleep apnea, so are night sweats, tooth grinding and morning headaches.
